Well then, what should I do to my car?

Here are our recommendations: Buy a good set of brake pads, such as metallic or carbon-metallic pads.  Your pads will last longer, your car will stop better, and your brakes will run cooler as a result.  Ensure that your brake fluid is fresh and of good quality.  Buy track tires only if you have reached the stage where you are "overdriving" your street tires (i.e., you begin to see abnormal wear on the tires after an event).  Do not buy engine modifications for the school; you don't need skill to go fast in a straight line!  Consider suspension modifications only to cure handling problems (e.g., severe understeer).  If you want to go faster around the corners, learn the skills necessary to go faster with the equipment you have.
