Dyno for Charity and Open HouseSaturday, September 25, 2004
Curry’s Auto Service
1510 Moran Road, Sterling, VA.
Start Time: 9:00 A.M.
Ever wondered how much horsepower your Bimmer really has? Now you have a chance to find out!  The National Capital Chapter and Curry’s Auto Service have teamed up to host Dyno for Charity and Open House on Saturday, September 25, 2004. Curry’s is graciously donating the use of their four-wheel chassis dynamometer from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with all the proceeds going to charity. Lunch will be provided courtesy of Curry’s.

Two charities will be the beneficiaries of this event. The first is Sonny's Kids Foundation, which was established to honor James (Sonny) L. Buchanan’s memory and his lifelong commitment to mentoring young people. Sonny was the third victim of the Washington, D.C., area sniper attacks. The second charity is the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which works to define, refine, and improve services for cancer survivors; and facilitates the delivery of those services to patients, their families, and other loved ones touched by the disease.

For a minimum donation of $65 (a $95 value) your car will be set up for at least two baseline runs in which you will receive a printout report of its horsepower and torque throughout the RPM band. Space is limited. We can only accommodate a maximum of 25 cars, so please sign up early. Tables will be set-up for Open House attendees, whether they are participating in the Dyno for Charity or not, to make donations in support of the good work of our two worthy charities.

As a one-time-only promotion for this event, Curry’s is reducing the cost of parts and installation on all Eurobahn Superchips, knocking $200 off of the MSRP. Please contact Chris Litten at 571-522-1002 at least one week before this event to take advantage of this limited opportunity.

This event will fill up fast (as dyno events always do!!!), so reserve your spot early.  Pre-registration is required, as well as your signature on a waiver*, so that we can put your car on the dynamometer. Please bring your check, made payable to NCC BMW CCA, to the event.

Reserve your dyno slot by sending an email to Steven Schlossman at . Curry's Auto of Dulles is a mile and a half west of Route 28 on Moran Road in Sterling, Virginia. They are located just seconds from Exit 8 (Route 606), of the Dulles Greenway.

*Disclaimer:  Neither the National Capital Chapter nor Curry’s Auto Service Inc. is responsible for any damage to your vehicle during the testing process.

MEDIA BLASTING AND POWDER COATING TECH SESSION

Saturday, December 13, 2003
American Stripping Co.
Manassas, Virginia
Start Time: 10:30 A.M.

Come join us as James Sejd, President of American Stripping Co, gives NCC members a tour of his facility in Manassas VA. Donuts and coffee will be served, then James plans to show us three different types of blast media, a vibratory mill polisher used to polish ceramakote finishes, and ASCO’s powder coating operation. If we have a large turn-out we’ll divide into smaller groups for the tour so everyone can get a good look at the equipment and ask a lot of questions. The tour should last about an hour. NCC members are welcome to bring non-members who may have an interest in the topic of this tech session. American Stripping Co. is a diversified company performing commercial coatings application and removal since 1979. See their web-site at www.ascoweb.com.

RESTORATION SHOP TECH SESSION AND TOUR

Saturday, February 16, 2002
Automotive Metal Performance, Inc.
Williamsport, Maryland
Start Time: 9:30 A.M.
Start Location: Urbana Park and Ride

Ever heard the saying, "one man's junk is another man's treasure?"  Well I have, and I've lived it on numerous automotive occasions!

Come and join us on February 16th as we "tour" to Automotive Metal Performance in Williamsport, Maryland for a tech session on the "fine art" of restoration.  Andy Paza will host our group for what promises to be an enlightening look inside the mystical world of automotive restoration.  Automotive Metal Performance (AMP) has been around for about fifteen years, with its owner having experience in the field of roughly twenty-five years.  The premises of AMP consists of a metal fabrication shop, trim/upholstery shop, and, of course, a paint area.  Let me ask you, have you ever seen an "English wheel?"  Do you know what it is?  With this handy little device, one can turn a flat piece of steel or aluminum sheet into a "NLA" hood or a curvaceous fender.  I think we've all seen various forms of so-called rust repair.  Some of us have seen the repaired areas rust again.  Why does this happen, you ask?  These are the types of questions that Andy will be able to answer for you.

In addition to restorative services, Automotive Metal Performance also specializes in custom fabrication of roll bars and cages to SCCA,  etc., specifications and proper mounting of harnesses and other safety equipment.

After the tech session, we will converge on the Schmankerlstube Restaurant in nearby Hagerstown, MD. There is no need to RSVP for the event, as the late-afternoon lunch will be "on your own," although the restaurant should be expecting the group.  The tour will leave the Park and Ride promptly at 9:30.  Until then, "keep the shiny side up!"
